News Bystronic completes acquisition of Coherent Corp.'s Tools for Materials Processing business unit

End of January, Bystronic completed the acquisition of the Tools for Materials Processing division of the US company Coherent Corp.

With this acquisition, Bystronic is strengthening its strategic position in several attractive new growth markets such as medical technology and semiconductorsAt the same time, the Swiss technology leader is expanding its technology portfolio to include applications such as micro material processing, marking, engraving, and drilling.

Applications for numerous industries

A key element of the transaction is the return of the Rofin brand. Bystronic is acquiring all trademark rights and will continue to operate them in the newly created "Bystronic Rofin" business unit. 

Bystronic Rofin's technology offering covers a wide range of materials – from metals, glass, and ceramics to polymers and organic materials. This opens- up new avenues for research and development, particularly in niches where precision and material expertise are crucial.

Both Bystronic and Rofin follow a full solution partner approach. Together with its customers, Bystronic develops solutions from the initial concept to stable serial  production. The combination of laser, automation, and software forms the ideal basis for the next stage of development in industrial manufacturing.

Rofin brings  decades of experience in the industrialization of laser processes, in-depth application knowledge, and a strong focus on customer needs. Bystronic and Rofin share similar DNA: application orientation, service competence, software expertise, and partnership-based collaboration. The business unit has around 400 employees and has generated annual sales of around USD 100 million in recent years. The new Bystronic segment is headquartered in Gilching near Munich, an established location for laser and precision technology.
