In the production hall of Satech Laser in Cervera, Catalonia, metal parts are manufactured for a wide range of industries – from mechanical engineering and irrigation technology to the food industry. Precision, reliability, and speed are what count here. “The laser is the engine of our business,” says Managing Director Asier Sandino.
Satech Laser specializes in laser cutting, bending, welding, and surface finishing. The company manufactures both small series and individual parts for industrial customers and private individuals. Short turnaround times are crucial to the success of the contract manufacturer.
Downtime slowed down production
In the past, downtime of the two cutting systems repeatedly led to delays. Employees were increasingly busy with adjustments and maintenance instead of productive manufacturing. The existing service partner was unreliable, which meant that a lot of time was lost whenever there were breakdowns.
“We realized that we needed more reliable and powerful technology,” says Sandino. The goal was to expand production capacity, stabilize processes, and ensure consistently precise operation.
Search for a reliable partner
While searching for a new solution, Satech Laser met Bystronic Area Sales Manager Joan Vicaria at a trade fair in Bilbao. Originally, the company was primarily interested in a new bending machine, but the conversation quickly led to a more comprehensive concept – a technological renewal of the entire cutting and bending area: “Satech Laser has a clear vision of what manufacturing should look like in the future,” says Joan Vicaria. “We were able to supply the right tools to support this path.”
For Asier Sandino, Bystronic proved to be the ideal partner: “We wanted to work with a supplier that offers experience, reliable service, and a long-term perspective,” explains Asier Sandino. Bystronic impressed with its technological expertise and local support in Spain.
New laser increases productivity fivefold
Satech opted for two core systems: the ByCut Smart 3015 fiber laser and the ByBend Star 120 bending machine. This combination was intended to speed up production, ensure quality, and reduce downtime.
After installing the new systems, processes improved noticeably: the cutting speed of the laser increased fivefold, and the team can now process sheets up to 30 millimeters thick. Switching between different materials is also smooth.
Thanks to significantly shorter cutting times, large series can now be produced competitively and reliably.
Just a few months after commissioning, we received a large order that would not have been possible without the ByCut Smart 3015
More stable and flexible manufacturing processes
The new machines enable the company to work more flexibly and respond more quickly to customer requirements. This brings competitive advantages, especially in single-item and small-batch production – for example, in the case of express orders that must be completed within 24 to 48 hours.
The ByBend Star 120 bending machine also contributes to the higher speed. Thanks to its automation and the BySoft CAM Bend software, tool changes and programming are more efficient, enabling precise bending operations with shorter setup times.
The modernization brought not only technological but also organizational changes. The technical office was expanded to accommodate the higher production speed. Today, all components are designed and prepared for production there.
The proximity between the office and the workshop promotes rapid communication between design and production. This enables Satech Laser to accompany projects from start to finish – from design and programming to delivery.
Investment accelerates growth
With the introduction of the new equipment, Satech Laser has not only increased its productivity but also improved process stability. The company has grown – both in terms of personnel and economically – and is considering expanding its production space in view of the continuing high order volume.
Satech Laser has taken a big step forward with the new technology – towards a manufacturing process that is faster, more stable, and more flexible
Asier Sandino agrees: “The investment has paid off. Our expectations in terms of reliability, precision, and service have been met.”
