Who we are. What we do.

We are Bystronic – a global technology company passionate about shaping the future of industrial manufacturing. We want to work with people who support us in creating new possibilities for connected sustainable production worldwide. As a leading partner for solutions for sheet metal and material processing, we combine laser cutting technology, press brakes, automation, and software with innovative laser applications for new materials and processes.

In a nutshell

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys shaping safety concepts across complex automated systems and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. As Safety Architect, you will combine two areas of responsibility:

  • Safety Expert for Storage Solutions: responsible for the safety concepts, risk assessments, documentation, and other requirements necessary for CE conformity.
  • Smart Factory Safety Architect: coordinating the safety approach across interfaces between Storage, and connected cutting and bending cells, ensuring a coherent and consistent end-to-end safety philosophy.

You will work across clusters and engineering disciplines to establish common principles while allowing individual products and customer projects the flexibility they require.

What drives this department

Our team develops the foundation for intelligent material flow in sheet metal manufacturing. As our Smart Factory solutions become increasingly interconnected, we ensure a consistent safety approach across products, interfaces, and customer-specific solutions.

What you will be doing

  • Coordinate risk assessments, safety requirements, validation, and technical documentation required for CE conformity.
  • Ensure that applicable machinery and functional safety standards are translated into practical engineering requirements.
  • Support development and project teams in resolving safety-related questions.
  • Establish reusable safety concepts and approaches that can be applied across different solution configurations.
  • Define and coordinate the safety architecture for interfaces between storage and cells.
  • Establish common principles for safety zones and the interaction between connected systems.
  • Drive a consistent approach to safety-related system behavior, including shutdown, reset, restart, and recovery concepts.
  • Ensure that customer-specific system configurations still provide a consistent and intuitive safety experience.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize safety concepts, interfaces, and engineering approaches across products and projects.
  • Work with controls and software engineers to ensure that the defined safety architecture is implemented consistently

Your education & experience

  • You have a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • You bring 5 years professional experience in engineering roles in an industrial setting
  • You bring several years of experience in machine safety, functional safety, automation, or controls engineering.

What you need to succeed

  • You have a broad practical knowledge of safety PLC technologies, including Beckhoff TwinSAFE, Pilz PNOZmulti/PSS 4000, Siemens S7-1200F/S7-1500F, and Rockwell GuardLogix.
  • You are comfortable to read and understand electrical schematics and a solid understanding of electrical engineering workflows, standards, and practices.
  • You have experience with complex automated machinery or interconnected production systems.
  • You bring a strong understanding of safety zones, safety functions, interlocks, emergency stops, reset and restart concepts.
  • You enjoy working across organizational boundaries and align engineering teams around common technical principles.
  • You have strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex safety requirements into practical engineering solutions.

What sets you apart

  • You bring a strong understanding of safety zones, safety functions, interlocks, emergency stops, reset and restart concepts.
  • Strong practical experience with CE conformity for machinery.
  • Experience with risk assessments, safety concepts, safety functions, technical documentation, and validation.
  • Hands-on experience with safety PLC programming and architecture.
  • Outstanding communication skills in English and German
  • Ability to create beautiful, accurate, simplified system diagrams that stakeholders can understand

People power our purpose

Imagine working in an environment that helps move the company to the next level, where your passion, values, and skills are integral to impacting industrial manufacturing and beyond.
