Background

The Haslach Group in Germany develops sophisticated filter technologies and attaches great importance to sustainability. It therefore has a vision of how particulate matter can be reduced in cities. The family-owned business has over 200 employees and generates an annual revenue of around 22.5 million euros (2018). 

Challenges

Logistics processes lacked systematization, due to many different customer requests. The storage of raw materials and finished parts was sometimes unstructured. It was therefore often unclear which material was stored where. This resulted in additional time spent searching. The goal was to systematize processes and to head in the direction of Industry 4.0. 

Solutions

With a fully automatic solution, Bystronic optimized storage processes without interrupting production. Customer-specific software connects laser and storage systems. The processes thus gained transparency. There are no longer bottlenecks, and full use can be made of capacity.

Preparation

Bystronic worked out a customized solution for Haslach, including scheduling and delivery. The goal was to optimize the data and material flow and to provide optimal support to the customer during commissioning. A project manager was  on-site to ensure this.

Implementation

Without interrupting production, two new laser cells with Trafö storage were installed on schedule over the course of three months. In parallel, daily business could be continued as usual. 
A site manager took care of coordination  on-site in cooperation with Haslach employees. Detailed planning made it possible to determine precisely which components would be delivered when and which tools were available for use. This prevented bottlenecks.

Go-live

Implementation of the solution project lasted around three months. The customer was thoroughly supported from the introductory phase through to the go-live. For familiarization with the systems as well as the transition of production processes, Bystronic stayed in constant communication with the customer. Thanks to close production support and intensive training, the project could 
be concluded to everyone's satisfaction on schedule.
