RoboCup 2019: hftm.team.solidus wins high placement at the World Championship

July 2019

At the Robot World Cup in Sydney, Australia, the Swiss team hftm.team.solidus achieved a high placement. Bystronic congratulates the team and all participants.

For several years, hftm.team.solidus has been a successful challenger in international robotics competitions. This continued in Sydney, Australia, at the beginning of July, 2019. There, world leaders in the field of robotics convened to duel with each other once again. The eight-person hftm.team.solidus from Biel was among the participants. Whereas other teams have invested in the same roster over the years with few changes, this is not the case for the Swiss team. The hftm.team.solidus team is built from scratch every year, comprised of students in their second year of full-time university study in Biel (in the subjects of Systems and Mechanical Engineering).

Success in competition

The hftm.team.solidus team attained several successes in the exploration phase during the matches. This is how they produced their first C1 product, for example. After several victories but also a few defeats, the team ultimately occupied a proud fourth place in the Logistics League. In the third-place match, hftm.team.solidus lost to the French team PYRO.

Exceptional performances lead to fourth place

It was almost enough for a podium finish. The advising team emphasizes the students’ achievements: “In terms of the result, this probably looks bad compared to our earlier successes, but tremendous things were happening in the background. From the amount of newly developed modules, formative learning progress, and self-written code, we are a great team. Our students this year are excellent programmers, and they invested and achieved a lot. They were also very focused during the matches and resolved their tasks superbly. We on the advising team are very proud of them.”

Great interest in new technologies from hftm.team.solidus

The biggest visual innovation of the hftm Robotinos did not stay hidden for long and drew great interest from the competing teams. Using LED underbody illumination the statuses of the Robotinos could be visualized in a new way.

Bystronic and hftm.team.solidus
