For the second time, the Solidus robotics team achieved second place at the Robocup world championships. In Leipzig, the Swiss students demonstrated what intelligent robots are capable of nowadays.
The robots from Team Solidus have done it again. At the beginning of July, with their Solidus robotics team, the students from the Higher College of Technology Mittelland (HFTM) in Biel, Switzerland, once again made it into the final of the Robocup. This year, the world championships for intelligent robots took place in Leipzig, Germany.
The only team that was able to stop the Swiss robots came from the RWTH Aachen University (Germany), which beat Team Solidus to first place. With the second place, the Swiss robotics team from Biel was able to repeat its excellent result from 2015. Last year, the Swiss robots achieved second place in China.
Approximately 3500 participants from over 45 countries took part in the Robocup 2016 in Leipzig. During the competition, young developers demonstrated in different disciplines what robots are capable of nowadays. The robots from Team Solidus took part in the so-called “Logistics League”. The conditions of the competition in this discipline of the Robocup simulate a manufacturing situation that is as close as possible to real-life industry conditions. One of the tasks was to control three robots, in order to make them work together to manufacture specific products. The robots have to plan, execute, and optimize the material flow. The aim is for the robots to deliver a finished product. Bystronic has been sponsoring Team Solidus since 2015.
